🏠 About Edenwald Houses

Edenwald Houses are a housing project in the Eastchester and Laconia neighborhoods of the Bronx, New York City. Established on October 30, 1953, the project consists of forty buildings, 3 and 14 stories tall with 2,039 apartment units.1 It is owned and managed by NYCHA and is the largest development in the Bronx.1

  1. 🎤DreamDoll (born 1992 as Tabatha Robinson) — Rapper / Reality TV Personality

Robinson was born and raised in Edenwald Projects, in the Eastchester neighborhood in the Bronx, New York.2 She first gained national attention on reality television. In 2016, while working as a bartender in the strip club Starlets in Queens, DreamDoll’s social media following grew substantially, leading her to be offered a role on the Oxygen series Bad Girls Club in its sixteenth season.3 In October 2017, DreamDoll joined the cast of Love & Hip Hop: New York season 8.2 She then transitioned into music — on May 16, 2017, she released her debut single titled “Everything Nice,” and the official music video has since gained over 8 million views.2 As a recording artist, she signed with Warner Records in 2021.2 DreamDoll’s musical style blends high-energy trap and drill elements, reflecting the drill wave that has dominated New York’s hip-hop scene.4

  1. 🎵Sharissa (Sharissa Dawes, born 1975) — R&B Singer & Actress

Sharissa (born 1975) is an R&B singer who was raised in the Edenwald Houses.5 Raised in the Bronx’ Edenwald Projects, she became interested in music at age seven.6 Her dad called her “Little Stevie Wonder,” as she sang to her neighbors in the Edenwald Projects.7 She began in the R&B group 4KaST before going solo. Sharissa became a backing vocalist for a number of singers, including Wyclef Jean, Beanie Sigel, Father MC, and Carl Thomas.6 Her 2002 debut album, No Half Steppin’, was released through Henchmen and Motown.6 It peaked at number 44 on the Billboard 200 chart.6 Sharissa contributed “Take Me as I Am” to the soundtrack of the 2003 romantic comedy film Love Actually.6 She also played Yanesha in the 2002 television film, Play’d: A Hip Hop Story.6

  1. 🎺Jerry González (1949–2018) — Latin Jazz Musician

Jerry González (1949-2018) was a Latin jazz musician who was raised in the Edenwald Houses.5 He was the brother of Andy González. Jerry was a legendary trumpeter, percussionist, and conguero who is best known as the leader of the Fort Apache Band, which blended Afro-Cuban rhythms with bebop jazz. He was a major figure in the Latin jazz movement and spent his later years performing in Madrid, Spain. His contributions to Latin jazz earned him critical acclaim worldwide.

  1. 🎵Andy González (1951–2020) — Latin Jazz Musician

Andy González (1951-2020) was a Latin jazz musician who was raised in the Edenwald Houses.5 He was the brother of Jerry González. Andy was a renowned bassist who played a pivotal role in the development of Latin jazz and salsa music. He performed with legendary groups including the Fort Apache Band (alongside his brother), Manny Oquendo’s Conjunto Libre, and Grupo Folklórico y Experimental Nuevayorquino. He was widely regarded as one of the most influential Latin jazz bassists of his generation.

  1. 🏀Emmanuel Andújar (born 1992) — Professional Basketball Player

Emmanuel Andújar (born 1992) is a professional basketball player and member of the Puerto Rico national basketball team. He was raised in the Edenwald Houses.5 Andújar represented Puerto Rico internationally and played professional basketball overseas. His journey from the Edenwald Houses to the international basketball stage made him a source of pride for the community.
